Construction News staff writer<\/p>\n<p>Renovations to the emergency department at St. Joseph\u2019s Healthcare Hamilton are now complete, with upgrades aimed at modernizing the space, improving patient privacy and experience and enhancing security.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iramcdonald.com\/\">Ira McDonald Construction Ltd<\/a>. was the general contractor on the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYesterday, our team had the pleasure of attending the Ribbon Cutting of one of our latest projects,\u201d the company said on social media. \u201cThis project represents more than just construction &#8211; it\u2019s a meaningful investment in the health, safety, and well-being of our local community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongratulations to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/st--joseph%27s-healthcare-hamilton\/\"><strong>St. Joseph&#8217;s Healthcare Hamilton<\/strong><\/a> and thank you not only to the entire project team, trades, and partners who helped bring this vital space to life, but the generous donors whose contributions made this renovation possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Originally built more than 20 years ago, the\u00a0emergency department\u00a0renovations\u00a0will help improve the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care\u00a0at the city\u2019s busiest emergency department.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reopening of our renovated emergency department highlights our commitment to\u00a0ongoing and needed improvements throughout our hospital that\u00a0support the\u00a0exceptional, patient-centred\u00a0care\u00a0our teams provide,\u201d said Mike Heenan, president, St. Joseph\u2019s Healthcare Hamilton. \u201cEvery change was made with purpose, to enhance safety, improve efficiency and ensure a more respectful and compassionate experience for our patients, their families and our dedicated care teams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The renovations\u00a0include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A larger waiting area to accommodate more patients and families<\/li>\n<li>A new triage area to streamline assessments and protect the privacy and dignity of our patients<\/li>\n<li>More patient assessment bays to\u00a0expedite\u00a0the time between arrival and diagnosis and reduce wait times<\/li>\n<li>A redesigned security station that will enable the\u00a0emergency department\u00a0to be safer for patients, families,\u00a0physicians,\u00a0staff\u00a0and learners<\/li>\n<li>A specialized EMS offloading area that will allow for direct patient\u00a0transfers\u00a0which will help with patient flow<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;As someone who comes from an engineering background, I can truly appreciate the thought, coordination and effort that\u2019s gone into delivering this expanded facility in a way that balances both urgency and quality,\u201d said Hamilton Centre MP Aslam Rana. \u201cFrom the redesigned triage areas to the new care bays and waiting rooms, this is more than just a renovation\u2014it\u2019s a reinvestment in dignity, efficiency and timely care.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The $1.5 million renovation project was\u00a0primarily\u00a0funded\u00a0by donations from our generous community of\u00a0grateful patients and friends through the work of St. Joseph\u2019s Healthcare Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The renovated emergency department opens to patients on August
