Infrastructure Ontario has issued a request for proposals seeking\u00a0landscape architects with the expertise and capacity to design an urban park\u00a0and waterfront trail along the east island of Ontario Place<\/span><\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The park and trail project will transform a portion of the site most\u00a0recently used for parking, providing public access to a section of Toronto’s\u00a0waterfront for the first time in 40 years. It will link to an expansive,\u00a0780-kilometre waterfront trail system that includes parts of the Trans\u00a0Canada Trail Ontario route as well as the Martin Goodman trail. Through\u00a0public consultations, green space with access to the waterfront was among\u00a0the top three priorities identified for a new Ontario Place.<\/p>\n

Interested bidders will need to provide a statement of design intent,\u00a0examples of similar projects, and an overview of their firm’s proposed\u00a0project team. Bids will undergo rigorous evaluation to ensure the landscape\u00a0architect chosen has the experience, expertise and capacity to successfully\u00a0manage a project of this size and scope. The successful landscape architect\u00a0is expected to be announced in fall 2013.<\/p>\n

Once the landscape architect is selected, the public will be invited to\u00a0provide input as part of the design phase. The final designs will be\u00a0unveiled in spring 2014.<\/p>\n

Infrastructure Ontario will also oversee the competitive procurement and\u00a0construction of the park and trail, which will take place in three phases.\u00a0Removal of the existing parking lot and site preparation are scheduled to\u00a0begin in spring 2014, underground infrastructure and servicing in summer\u00a02014, and construction of the park and its surface-level amenities in fall\u00a02014.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
