{"id":642,"date":"2015-03-28T03:13:40","date_gmt":"2015-03-28T03:13:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/niagaraconstructionnews.com\/?p=642"},"modified":"2015-03-28T03:13:40","modified_gmt":"2015-03-28T03:13:40","slug":"steve-smith-to-lead-ohmpa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/niagaraconstructionnews.com\/?p=642","title":{"rendered":"Steve Smith to lead OHMPA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Steve Smith<\/strong>, vice-president paving and construction with the <a href=\"http:\/\/m.millergroup.ca\/index.html\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Miller Group<\/span>,<\/strong><\/a> has taken office as president of <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ohmpa.org\/index.html\"><strong>The Ontario Hot Mix Producers Association\u2019s (OHMPA)<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, succeeding outgoing president <strong>Bentley Ehgoetz<\/strong>, director of operations for Lavis Contracting Limited, at\u00a0OHMPA\u2019s 2015 Annual General Meeting on March 26 \u00a0in Toronto.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cI\u2019m honoured to be stepping in as the 38th president of OHMPA, and look forward to continuing our work providing leadership and advocacy for Ontario\u2019s asphalt industry,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u201cOHMPA, to me, is the brightest best of the industry. Being a part of OHMPA is to be with peers, people who share the same interest and passion for paving excellence. To me, it\u2019s always been about education. We\u2019re the experts, and we\u2019re striving to get even better, that\u2019s the exciting challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">A native of Belleville, Smith graduated from the Civil Engineering program at McMaster University. He started his construction career in earnest with Harnden &amp; King Construction in 1989, but long before that he was earning his keep with his father\u2019s sewer and water-main company. He is a lifer in the construction business; born into it, you might say, an OHMPA news release says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Smith joined the OHMPA board in 2010, but he\u2019s been attending OHMPA events since early on in his career. \u201cI remember walking into events as a young guy thinking, wow, here are the leaders of the industry and It was intimidating, but what an opportunity to learn,\u201d says Smith.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Steve lives in Oshawa with his wife of 27 years, Kathy, a researcher at UOIT, their daughter Lindsay, 24 and their son Michael, 22.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Formed in 1974, The Ontario Hot Mix Producers Association (OHMPA) is the authoritative voice of the province\u2019s asphalt industry.
