Christensen, says the decision was made to install a Soprema Green Roof System for this very unique building. \u201cThis roof project was unique not only because a garden would be installed on top of the roof but also because it was very challenging to address the roof drainage and waterproofing requirements for this building,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Students also participated. Christensen says while students were not able to install the roof membrane because of manufacturer warranty restrictions, they were on hand to observe the membrane installation and assisted Snips Landscape and Nursery with the landscaping installed on top of the roof membrane.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also provided the students with a \u2018Roofing 101, course on the ground. The students learned about different flat roof systems, as well as the roof system that they observed installed on this roof.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She says the students also got to try their hands at torch applying the same modified rubber bitumen cap sheet membrane to some base sheet laid out on the ground as a learning tool.<\/p>\n<p>Christensen says it was a \u201cgreat experience and very rewarding to be part of this project that won NCA\u2019s Project of the Year. Thank you to DSBN, Walker Environmental, Mountainview Construction, and MacDonald Zuberec Ensslen for creating such a remarkable facility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>PEC Roof Maintenance, established in 1968 by Pete Christensen, is a division of Ed Christensen Roofing Ltd., founded in 1936.
