Ontario Construction News staff writer<\/p>\n

Infrastructure Ontario and Niagara Health have issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) for a\u00a0 design-build-finance-maintain team for the new South Niagara hospital.<\/p>\n

Submissions will be reviewed to shortlist three teams with the design and construction experience, as well as the financial capacity to deliver a project of this size and complexity.\u00a0Shortlisted teams will be invited to respond to request for proposals, expected to be released in fall 2021.<\/p>\n

The project will be delivered as a P3 (Public-Private Partnership) model.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe pandemic has highlighted the importance of effective infection, prevention and control measures. We look forward to working with the successful bidding team to ensure we are building a facility that is ready for what the future may bring,\u201d said Lynn Guerriero, president and\u00a0 interim CEO, Niagara Health.<\/p>\n

The new state-of-the-art facility involves the creation of Centres of Excellence in stroke, complex care, geriatric psychiatry and ageing and wellness. The project will have a senior\u2019s focus embedded into all aspects of the design. The project is working towards becoming the first WELL\u00ae certified healthcare facility in Canada, improving the work-life experience for our staff and physicians and enhancing the well-being of all who use the building.<\/p>\n

“With this new build, and the WLMH rebuild in West Niagara, the Niagara Region will have a significant number of brand-new health care facilities, which will ensure patients and their families receive the best possible care,\u201d said Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff.<\/p>\n

The South Niagara hospital project continues to move through the Ministry of Health\u2019s\u00a0five-stage\u00a0planning process<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for building a new health infrastructure in Ontario.
