{"id":9777,"date":"2022-10-28T07:06:44","date_gmt":"2022-10-28T07:06:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/niagaraconstructionnews.com\/?p=9777"},"modified":"2022-10-28T07:06:44","modified_gmt":"2022-10-28T07:06:44","slug":"west-end-home-builders-association-supports-ontarios-bold-new-housing-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/niagaraconstructionnews.com\/?p=9777","title":{"rendered":"West End Home Builders\u2019 Association supports Ontario\u2019s bold new housing plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ontario Construction News staff writer<\/p>\n<p>The West End Home Builders\u2019 Association (WE HBA) and the Ontario Home Builders\u2019 Association (OHBA) call Ontario\u2019s new housing legislation \u201ca once-in-a-generation housing plan\u201d that will make it easier to build new homes quicker, reduce housing costs and cut red tape.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe West End Home Builders\u2019 Association is fully supportive of landmark legislation that moves the needle to significantly increase housing supply and address Southern Ontario\u2019s growing housing crisis,\u201d said Mike Collins-Williams, CEO of the WE HBA. \u201cBuilding on the recommendations from the Housing Affordability Task Force report, the provincial government has proposed bold reforms to encourage all types of new housing to be built faster in communities across the province.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On average, government fees, taxes and charges account for 25% of the cost of a new home, adding up to $250,000 to the cost of a typical single-family home. Housing approvals in Ontario take longer than in any other jurisdiction in North America.
