Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, joined representatives from Halton Healthcare Services to make the announcement during a sign unveiling event on Sept. 4  at Milton District Hospital.

In the fast-growing community of Milton, this project will focus on increasing the services and facilities that are most in demand. These include emergency, surgical, critical care, maternal newborn, diagnostic imaging and support services, as well as medical/surgical inpatient units.

The request for qualifications is the first step in the procurement process to select a team to design, build, finance and maintain the project. Submissions will be reviewed to pre-qualify project teams with the design, construction experience, qualified personnel and financial strength to deliver a project of this size and complexity. These teams will then be invited to respond to a request for proposals, which is expected to be released in the spring of 2014.

In advance of issuing the request for qualifications, Infrastructure Ontario and Halton Healthcare Services recently contracted Stantec Architecture Inc. as the planning, design and compliance team for the redevelopment project. The planning, design and compliance team establishes the guidelines and performance requirements the successful development team must meet when
preparing their submissions for the project. Stantec will also monitor construction progress and provide coordination and oversight services throughout the course of the project.

The redevelopment project will target the Canada Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, with a goal of achieving LEED Silver certification. LEED buildings focus on healthy indoor environments, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and efficient use of energy, water and other resources.

Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care are working with HHS to redevelop Milton District Hospital, which will continue to be publicly owned and publicly controlled.

Halton Healthcare Services is a multi-site healthcare organization that operates three community hospitals in the Towns of Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills. Located in one of the fastest growing regions in the province, Halton Healthcare Services is committed to growing with its communities.
