Habitat for Humanity Niagara to start first Women Build project

Habitat for Humanity Niagara is preparing for its first Women Build, from May through September in Welland, where volunteers will construct semi-detached homes for two families.

Niagara Construction Association (NCA) past president Tara Christensen is quoted in this Welland Tribune article describing the initiative: Women’s work: Habitat plans all-female project.

NCA general manager Karin Sheldrick reports that Yvonne Hendriks (Homes by Hendriks) and Christensen (PEC Roof maintenance) are co-chairing the build.

Steering committee members include:

Anne Lennard-Otto – Distinctive Designs & Cabinetry Inc; Melanie Patterson – Walker Industries; Kylie Boyd – Kylie Boyd Consulting; Sarah Edwards – Cotton Inc.; Carl Ryan – Cotton Inc; Sherri Smith – Regional Doors & Hardware; Tisha Polocko – GNCC WIN Committee & St. Catharines Downtown Associationand Site Supervisors:  Ben Obdeyn – MaBo Westside Construction, Frank Memme – Mountainview Homes.

Habitat for Humanity seeks “businesses, organizations and volunteers to participate in the Women Buildby donating funds, products and services to build the semi-detached home,” Sheldrick says.
